“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1″ proved once again that nothing can beat the Harry Potter magic when it comes to pulling in viewers to theatres – even for the 7th installment in the series. The first part of the much awaited last movie in the J.K.Rowling franchise came in as the top grosser at the box office over the holiday weekend, pulling in $50.3 million. The movie has earned over $220 million so far in the US alone.
Disney’s animated 3D cartoon film – “Tangled,” came in a close second with $49.1 million, while another cartoon film, “Megamind” from Dreamworks stables, came in third with $12.8 million in gross ticket sales.
“Burlesque,” the loud, glitzy, glamorous musical starring Cher and Christina Aguilera came in fourth with $11.8 million. Action film “Unstoppable” starring Denzel Washington came in fifth with $11.75 million.
